Reality is in fact neither good nor bad, it is something like the curved ruler that can be bent and twisted in many directions depending on your beliefs.

All too often you get so involved in things that you look at life through a microscope. Amplifying manifold, an invisible speck becomes an insurmountable mountain. Put down the microscope and imagine yourself a year from now looking back at today: 'Does this really matter?'

here's a video that i want to share with you guys. it's called "who moved my cheese". am not sure whether you all have seen it before, but i've recently read the book and i think it is a good wakeup call (not saying u guys need one). it certainly helped me to change some of my perspectives...

ah. there's no hidden meaning to this. i just want you guys to take some time and think about what's going on. be it your life, your relationships or your environment. perhaps you guys might find it applicable to your situation, in any aspect.

well, be good and jiayou for school okay. i know it's tiring and the year could be hell of a rollercoaster ride, but hang in there alright everyone! my listening ears will always be free for you guys :)

heres the arrangement for e sl.
each station will be guarded by one main coordinator.
e rest of us will be divided into groups to follow a group of kids.
tell me if you wanna have any changes or if you wanna have a look at e proposal.

The Name Caller (ice breaker) –
Objective: To encourage everyone to socialize and start the event rolling
Details: In this game, the children will be sitting in a circle with a few students. Everyone in the circle will introduce their names and are required to memorise everyone’s names. A person will be standing in the middle of the circle and distributing poker cards shown to everyone in the circle. If a person gets a card with the same number as another person in the circle, they will have to shout the other person’s name. The loser will have to pile the winner’s card on top of his and the game continues as more cards are distributed. At the end of the game, the person with the most number of cards will have to do a forfeit. Points will be awarded based on the participation of the children

hello people!

some updates about the sl project.
it will take place on 8 dec, from 10 to around 1pm. its a half day activity.
training will be given on 7 dec.
everybody will have to be down at yishun child care centre from 10 to around 12.
this is because some children there have poor social skills or tend to be introvent and have low esteem. training will be provided to teach us how to handle the kids.
age range is from 5 to 12.
there will be 5 group of children.
each group consist of 5 kids.

so our class will be splited to 5 groups too.

The PW committee has prepared the 'How To' Guide to a Good Written Report, Chapter 1 - How to Write a Good Introduction, and Chapter 2 - How to Write a Good Chapter 2. These chapters can be found in Workbin: PW lectures & templates - Templates folder.

I guess you have not forgotten about your PW!
Even though mid year has ended, it does not seem like its ended. Ugh.
There's something that each group has to do... A PRESENTATION!

This is what you have to do for tutorial next week:

8min PW team progress presentation - powerpoint or flipchart paper or whiteboard (your choice)

Progress presentation to include:
2mins - introduction of chosen Emergency event/Conservation project; reasons for the choice; brief explanation of how the first event/project is linked to future event/project.

1min - selected future event/project and reasons for choice;

5mins - progress on research into strategy development for future event/project.
If using powerpoint, should have only 5 slides maximum.

Don't be demoralised, i am as demoralised as you are.

hello everyone. this post is regarding the sl project.

we have decided to plan a one day programme with yishun childcare centre during the nov/dec holidays. Its near our sch, so its quite convenient and will only take a few hours for the whole programme. I have contacted the person in charge and they have express their interest as well.

this is what i got from their reply:

Thank you for expressing your interest to do your SL project with SCS, Yishun. It will be great to have you and your classmates to organize activities for the children during the Nov and Dec Holiday.

Please discuss with your class some ideas you would like to have and send me a proposal on your plan by end of Sept 09. We will further discuss the date m time and details once I see the proposal and arrange for meeting up as well as briefing and training.

Hi everyone,

There will be games held starting from the first saturday after mid years, on both 11 and 18 JULY.

This is to help our house earn points!=] we can form our own teams to sign up for the different games.

1)Table Tennis singles (3F per team /3M per team)
2)Squash (mixed) ( 6 player, out of the 6, 3 are reserves)(1 teacher allowed)
3)Bowling (mixed, must have at least one member of opposite gender) (4 players) (1 teacher allowed)
4)Basketball (10 F per team/10 M per team) ( 1 teacher allowed)
5)Volleyball ( 10 F per team/10 m per team) ( 1 teacher allowed) (Tentative)
6)Badminton ( 4F per team/ 4 M per team) ( 1 teacher allowed)
7)Soccer (boys only) ( 10 M per team) ( 1 teacher allowed)
8)Floorball ( 8 F per team/ 8 M per team) ( 1 teacher allowed)
9)Netball (girls only) ( 10 F per team) ( 1 teacher allowed)

There are limit on the number of school team player on each games.
All the games are free, except for bowling, must pay $6 per member.
If we dun have enough number to form one team, can still register and mix with other classes to form a team.
There are limited amount of teams needed for each games, so we may not get the games we want. Registration starts from now till end of june holidays.

Please note the following:

1. Remember to collect the money for the Competition (the one organised by new south wales) by TOMORROW. Remind your classmates that it's $8.60 exact, cash only. Pay me (with the list of participants written on the envelope) during tutorial tomorrow.

2. I don't have the following current affairs quizzes of these people: Yee Ching and Pei Chun (the 2 they have to print at home) and Shen Wei (all 3). I have 2 nameless ones so it might be from your class but please tell them to SHOW me a MARKED COPY tomorrow. If not, I will record a zero for their grade. They'll have to come see me, I won't look for them. I have attached the answers to the quizzes to this email, so there is no reason why they will not be able to mark their own answers. Please tell them that I trust their integrity to do the quizzes before marking.

3. There will be a file check either tomorrow or next Thursday. This time, the HOD will be coming in to check while we continue with lessons, so please ensure that EVERYONE brings their files, and that the appropriate improvements have been made according to my comments. For some of them, I have indicated that their files are unacceptable, so these people are to take particular note, because ALL files will be checked by the HOD.

Hey 33,

There's extra hw for you! This may sound boring but you have to do it no matter what. You are supposed to do an individual reflection on your own PI. Please do it in MSWord, font 12 (i mentioned) , on an A4 sized paper. You are supposed to hand it in on this coming Tuesday, 12 May 2009.

The reflection questions are:

What three important issues have I learned from the PI process?
What would I have done differently if I have the chance to do my PI again?
What additional new points would I add to my PI if I had the chance to edit it?

That's all. Only three extra questions for you to do. Btw, I asked Mrs Toh about the font size thing for our PI and she said that it's okay but next time, we have to do it in font size 12 for any of our pw work. To make sure that she doesn't go blind, we should be considerate next time. FONT SIZE 12!

Our class is given Dart Game and Olympic Target for Sports Carnival. Please be reminded to wear your house t-shirt + pants/skirt tomorrow. Bring along your PE shorts too (in case needed). For those who are changing the size of their shirts, please come to school in orientation t-shirt.

Objective: To shoot some darts towards the target
Game format: Team members to shoot three darts each towards a target. Total number of points accumulated is the score for the team.

For Speak EZ, we'll have a Timer, an Ah-Counter, and 6 to 7 evaluators.
Timer- Peichun
Ah-counter- Cheryl
Evaluators- Rest of the class since the class is so small ('ll check with Ms Lee again)
Chairperson- Melissa
*The people taking those roles will change every session.

Taken directly from the handouts:

When you are the Timer
Ring the bell once at 1 & a half minutes, and twice at 2 minutes. Ring bell once every 15 seconds from 2 & a half minutes.
At the meeting
Ensure you have a bell. If you have no bell, you will need to indicate the time to the speaker clearly and loudly.
During the meeting
Advice the Chairperson if the time is being waster or running out.
When introduced at the end of the session, proceed to the front to give a summary of your report.

When you are the Ah-Counter
The Ah-Counter for each speaker plays an important part in helping the speaker improve. Speakers often hesitate or pepper their speeches with fillers without being aware of it. Your job is the count these hesitations so the speaker becomes aware of how smooth his/her speech is. Some examples of words used as fillers are "and", "well", "so", "you know", "then", "um", "er". Repetition of words like "this means, it means" should also be counted.
During the meeting
At the conclusion of the meeting, when introduced, the Ah-Counter goes tot he front to present your report. You may want to add the effect the hesitations had on the audience: perhaps they impeded understanding, were distracting, etc.

When you are the Evaluator
You will evaluate at least one of the speakers for the session. In addition to your oral evaluation, you will also give the speaker your completed evaluation form. The evaluation presented by you can make the difference between a worthwhile or a wasted session for the speaker.
During the speech
Pay close attention, using your eyes and your ears. Make written notes on the form given to you.
After the speech, you will present a brief oral evaluation, usually about 1 minute long
When you are introduced
Stand up and give your oral evaluation report. Begin & end your evaluation with a note of encouragement or praise.
Try to cover one point on organisation, one on delivery, and one on achievement of purpose.
Include 2 positive points and two suggestions for future improvement.
Praise a successful speech & specifically tell why it was successful. If there is a technique the speaker used, tell the speaker so he or she will be encouraged to use it again.
If there are problems, point them out in a friendly, helpful manner. Every comment in which you reveal a weakness should also carry suggestion for overcoming that weakness.
Your role is not to pass judgment, but rather to describe your own reactions. While you shouldn't lie and praise the speaker for something he or she wasn't good at, try to make the overall tone of your evaluation positive and rewarding- strive to make the speaker feel good about himself.

There should be an opening, body and conclusion. The speech body should contain at least three main points. Each point should be clearly stated, illustrated and supported. Act as though your audience is not at all familiar with the topic; don't assume they know anything. Arrange your points in logical order.

How to make your "butterflies" fly in formation
Nervousness, speech anxiety, stage fright- it's known by many names, but it's a problem every speaker must confront. Here's how you can make your butterflies fly in formation:

1. Know the room. Become familiar with the place where you will speak. Stand at the area where you will be speaking. If you'll be using visual aids, practice with them. Walk from the area where you'll be seated to the front, as you will when you are introduced.

2. Know the audience. Get to know your classmates. It is easier to speak to a group of friends than to a group of strangers.

3. Know your material. If you are not familiar with your material, your nervousness naturally will increase. Practice your speech and revise it until you can present it with ease. Write your speech in large letters, clearly and neatly, onto cards or a piece of paper.

4. Relax. Do relaxation exercises. Breathe in slowly, hold your breath, and breathe out.

5. Visualise yourself giving your speech. Imagine yourself waking confidently to the front as the audience applauds. Imagine yourself speaking, your voice loud, clear and assured. When you visualise yourself as successful, you will be successful.

6. Realise that people want you to succeed. Audiences want speakers to be interesting, stimulating, informative and entertaining. They want you to succeed- not fail. Your audience will be understanding and supportive.

7. Don't apologise. Most of the time your nervousness doesn't show at all. If you don't say anything about is, nobody will notice. If you mention your nervousness or apologise for any problems you think you have in your speech, you'll only be calling the audience's attention to it.

8. Gain experience. Experience builds confidence, which is a key to effective speaking. Most beginning speakers find that their anxieties decrease after each speech they give.

9. Take the feedback as areas in which you can continue to strengthen or improve.

Hey 33!

Wazzup man.

Family day's tomorrow! The long anticipated day!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But before we start partying, here a gentle reminder on all the things u need to take note of.

1) Reporting time for family day is 7.30am for non-runners. Please do not be late
2) Settle around our class booth! You can find our stall which will be labelled.
3) Wear your AJ 25 shirt and P.E bottoms. You are STRONGLY encouraged to bring extra clothes in case people sabo you and you get dunked.
4) People required to bring extra food/ logistics please do so.

The entire carnival starts at around 10am ( Depending on the time the last batch of runners arrive at the campus)

Sale of food/ games everything will end by 2.55pm BUT we have to stay till 5pm to clear up. ( The sooner we clear up the sooner we can go home)

You all are supposed to pay the fees to us (class leaders) on Wednesday. Different programmes require different fees. Please take note of how much you need to pay. Those names not mentioned mean that you need not pay.

Our class is assigned to Camp Challenge at 8 Admiralty Road East. Report to your PD tutor at 7:30am at BLK 351A, next to Sembawang MRT station. There will be buses provided to drive us to Camp Challenge from there.

Pants/Track pants (no jeans)
Exercise/Running shoes (no sandals/slippers)

How do you get prepared for the day
Have breakfast before reporting for the programme

Protect yourself with sunblock
Be punctual
If you are unwell, inform your PD tutor as soon as possible on the day of the programme, see a doctor and rest at home. Present the MC to your teacher at the next available opportunity.
If you are on medication (pills, inhaler, etc.), please pass the medication to your PD tutor when you report for attendance.

The following students are excused from RT and will be attending Sports Education Programme (SEP) in school instead (because of health reasons):

yo everyone.

this post is about the family day.
shengwei ask me to msg the councillor cause he couldnt come to an agreement with her.
smsed her and this is what happened.
the councillor do not want us to make sandwich ,cookies AND also sushi because other classes are making it and said that we will be unable to keep the sushi fresh the whole day.so she wants us to cook soup, different kind of soups, ( mushroom, clam chowder, chicken etc)and luckily, i managed to ask for a plug/switch so we can keep the soup warm, and also, to cook fries and nuggets if your want. but we need to have pots for the soup and also a small one to fry the fries. ( no open fire is allowed)
she also suggested that we can do french toast with soup to make it western-like.
everyone please give ur views on these.
negative or postive views will be fine. =D

hope none of your will be unhappy with the family day arrangement.
if you want, just be unhappy with the councillors. =x haha.
we will discuss this tmr in class, (probably, cause she wants a confirmation by 5 pm)

Alright guys....and girls(This is getting to be a pain in the...), I have no idea why I'm writing this or rather, why of all times I'm writing this now.Anyway, my main purpose in posting this...thing...is simple.To get you guys to cheer up!Hey,HEY DON'T HIT THE CLOSE BUTTON YET!Just bear with me for err...3 mins? Anyway, it might be that I'm just imagining it but some of you have been...sort of depressed lately...Well, I'm just saying cheer up!Sure Chemistry turns you into a frustrated zombie temporarily.Sure you have no bloody idea on whats going in Maths.Sure you're still trying to grasp what the F*** the Econs notes are saying.And finally, SURE PW AND CCA SUCK ASS but remind yourself its just a few more days to go until spring break and...well let's just not remember what comes after that.What I'm trying to say is...sure life ain't smooth sailing now and life PROBABLY will never be smooth sailing now but going all depressed and giving up isn't really going to change it.Times are hard but we gotta pull through yea?The future is waiting for us.You can argue that I'm just some spoiled brat who doesn't know a damn about what you girls and guys are going through but I'm as much of a human being as you guys.Sure I'm slacker than the slack level of the whole class combined.Sure I'm fat although I really dun see how its related to this.

Look, all I'm saying is, pull yourself together.It's only the ...first term and if you guys are already starting to fall low in morale, then how're you going to survive the next few terms?I might look like an ass saying all this but just pull yourself together, even if you have to do it cold-heartedly. Yea, it hurts.I know it hurts.School homework hurts and CCA demands definitely hurts and adults misunderstanding us at every turn ALWAYS hurts but remember, you're not the only one suffering here.A lot of people are suffering in their lives out there and hell, even the always-smiling Ronald Mcdonald's getting defiled by yucky grimy hands of children in any possible way you can think of.Life is never easy but that doesn't mean you have to be all depressed and cursy about it.I'm not saying complaining is wrong.Complaining is good.It lets off some steam and guess what, I encourage it.It sure as hell beats bottling it all inside and then having to let it out in the worst possible moments.Talk things out, be more open-minded,don't be afraid of cursing the guy who ruined your day and definitely, don't ever bottle things inside.

Also, try not to think of dying.Its the worst possible thing you can ever think of.You might just keep saying I'm only joking but I'm warning you as someone who almost nearly killed himself once, you may only be joking but when things gets too rough for you, you might just find yourself leaning over the edge of some high up building.Just ignore the temptations of plotting your own deaths since you can have a much better time deciding what flavour of lolipops you would like to have tomorrow.Sure work never ends and life is just too dull to live in....or to hurtful to live in for some of you guys but someone once shouted at me," You can't just die!The world is waiting for you!Who is going to fill up the place of Kenneth Surajat if you should go on and get killed?Keep living.Things look dark now but good things will come out of it in the end!" I haven't found that really good "thing" that life is going to give me just for living through it and I definitely haven't found anything that makes me wanna pursue eternal life but all I can say is, while I'm not glad that I'm still living now, I am content.Why?Because each day brings you new happenings, new truths and new bonds.Take you guys as example, I find that life had been worthwhile in living because I've met you guys.Not only the class but a whole lot of other people too.I hope you'll give some consideration into what I just said here.Don't ever think that dying will solve all problems.When you die, people are going to be sad and you're really not going to be able to rest in peace with your best bud crying over your grave every single day.Just live on, try to be happy and FORCE yourself to keep moving.Remember, we're all in this together.So Let's Keep Running Together, yea?

Oh right, she uploaded the first two PDF of the year on Structure of the Earth and Plate Tectonics and the Plate Boundaries and Associate landforms. Basically, you guys already have the notes, just that it's in black and white. If you all are the pictorial kind of person, you might want to take a look at the uploaded notes cos it will be coloured. Perhaps you guys might understand a little better if u can't for the b&w version :)
